If so, then you didn't want to miss Wednesday's Great Day when Chef Malachi Harland from the Chef's Table was live in the Great Day Kitchen to cook up some Vegetable Gumbo.
Harland is making the Gumbo in honor of a Gumbo Throw down at the Vineyard Farmer's Market this weekend.
The throw down will take place this Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the corner of Blackstone and Shaw. The cost to the event is $8. You can call for information on the event at (559) 221-0182.
Here's Harland Vegetable Gumbo recipe for those who wish to try it at home;
Vegetable Gumbo
Flour ¼ cup
Canola Oil ¼ cup
Onion 1 small
Celery 1 stalk
Green Bell Pepper 1 each
Garlic 5 cloves
Mixed Seasonal Vegetables 2 cups
Okra ½ cup
Vegetable Stock 5 cups
Cajun seasoning 1 Tablespoon
Salt and Pepper to taste
Cooked White Rice 2 cups
Method:
1. Cook flour and oil over medium heat until the color of peanut butter, stirring constantly
2. Add onion, celery, bell pepper and garlic, cook 5 minutes
3. Add seasonal vegetables and cook for 10 minutes stirring every few minutes
4. Add vegetable stock and okra and simmer for 25 minutes
5. Season to taste with Cajun seasoning, salt and pepper
6. Serve over rice!
