Memorial Services Set For Atwater Soldier

Memorial services are now set for the Merced County soldier, who died in Afghanistan nearly two weeks ago.

The body of Army Specialist Terry Hurne arrived in Atwater Saturday afternoon.

Specialist Hurne was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, when he died June 10th.

He was a generator mechanic and builder in the army.

The Department of Defense reports he died after he was hurt, but not in battle.

His sister, Cheryl, told KMPH Fox 26 news earlier this month that Spc Hurne was supposed to return home in a matter of weeks.

Funeral services are set for Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Atwater.

Hurne’s family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Last Hope Cat Kingdom in Atwater.

You can find a link to make a donation here.
