Teens Confront And Scare Away Burglars

Posted:
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

Two Fresno County teenagers found themselves in a scary situation when thieves broke into their home. The 14 year-old and 16 year-old hid in the bathroom for an hour and then confronted the burglars.

"My two teenagers were scared, but they were really angry too. They said, "Who are these people in our house?"

The teenagers' mom, who asked that we not show her face or use her name, says four men jumped over a fence and went through her cars. She says the men tried to kick down a door and left a footprint behind. She goes onto say that the thieves picked up a metal bar and broke a window.

"I am very angry right now," says the teens' mom, "These people may be people we know or people we talk to or we associate with."

She says the thieves sliced a pillow open and then went looking for cash and her husband's hunting rifles. The entire time her 14 year-old and 16 year-old were hiding in the bathroom. After an hour they finally decided to run out and confront the four thieves.

"They were shocked that someone was home, so they ran. When they ran, they ran laughing, thinking that it was a joke. It's not a joke, you broke into somebody's house and you think it's a joke, it's not childish games," says the mom.

The thieves ended up taking a laptop, I–Pad, cash, traditional Hmong costumes, and a box with personal documents.

The teens' mom tells me that Sheriff's deputies are patrolling the house to make sure that bad guys don't go after her kids.

If you have any information about the men who broke into the house, call Crime Stoppers at 559–498–STOP (7867).
