BURR RIDGE, Ill., May 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Runners from throughout the Midwest will help fight childhood obesity during the 10th annual "Run the Ridge" 5K and 1K run/walk sponsored by JWest, LLC, Carmel, IN, on Saturday May 31st, Burr Ridge, IL. The run will raise money for ProActive Kids (PAK), a nonprofit, childhood obesity intervention program available at hospitals and other healthcare organizations throughout Illinois.
The Run the Ridge 5K Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m., and the 1K at 8:45 a.m. at the County Line Square shopping center, Burr Ridge Parkway, Burr Ridge. NBC5 Sports Broadcaster, Mike Adamle, will serve as race emcee.
"Obesity affects 17 percent of adolescents and adults in the U.S.," says Suzanne Gray, race organizer and president of Right Fit Sport Fitness Wellness. "We are committed to making a difference for obese youth and teenagers who, with the PAK program, have a chance to live a healthier life."
The 5K entry fee is $35 for participants registering through May 23, and $45 beginning May 24. The fee for the 1K run/walk is $10 through May 23 and $15 beginning May 24. The entrance fee for 5K includes a sports performance t-shirt and goody bag. Fitness activities will be sponsored by the Burr Ridge Park District. In addition, DJ Mike on Mic, and the world-class professional juggler, Doug Sayers, from whatsup juggling in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will keep the crowd entertained.
