Visalia Drama Teacher Retiring After Nearly 40 Years

Posted:
VISALIA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A long time Valley drama teacher took his final bow Saturday night.

For 39 years, Mike Wilson has been the man behind the musicals at Golden West High School in Visalia.

But this year, Wilson announced he was retiring. Saturday night's performance of "Beauty and the Beast" at the L.J. Williams Community Theater would be his last show.

Many of his drama students have won awards and some of have gone on to Broadway.

"I'm going to miss everything, because I'm so passionate about this job," Wilson said. "I'm just lucky, I get to play all day."

He says one of the most rewarding things he's been able to do, is watch his students grow throughout the years.

While he may be done teaching theater, that doesn't mean Wilson has left the stage for good. He plans to continue rocking out with his band Run 4 Cover on the weekends.
