President Obama Visits Fresno: Hundreds Gather To See Him

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

People that gathered outside "Fresno Yosemite International Airport" to catch a glimpse of President Barack Obama say it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"To see the President for the first time, it's pretty cool," says Joseph Gallegos.

Gallegos arrived at the corner of Chestnut and Dakota at 10am Friday morning. He wasn't the only one looking for a Presidential experience. Hundreds of people crowded the area across the street from the airport.

"We've been reading the papers and news to see where the recommended viewing was," says Nikki Donnelly from Madera.

The Presidential watchers came with cameras and binoculars. They were ready to get the perfect picture of Air Force One.

"It's an honor to have any President come to Fresno," says Sherman McCoy.

People also talked about the reason for President Obama's trip, to discuss the drought.

"I thought it was way overdue," says Rose Marie Housc, "I hope he can see that we don't need a monorail, we need water."

After Obama took off on Marine One people went to the other side of the airport, so they could take a picture in front of the President's plane.

"When you were a young kid you always dreamed about being President of the United States," says Matthew Hernandez, "To actually be standing next to this plane right here, it's a huge adrenaline rush."
