Dying Man's Stolen Hot Rod Recovered

A high-priced set of wheels is now back with its rightful owner.

Wednesday night, the Fresno Career Criminal Auto Theft Task Force recovered a 1952 Chevy Bel-Air, at a home near Butler and Fowler in Southeast Fresno.

The classic car belongs to well-known auto restorer Ken Colombini. He has helped customize hot rods in the Central Valley for more than 40 years.

Colombini is dying of prostate cancer, and had planned to leave the car as a family heirloom to his daughter.

The Chevy was stolen on January 17th from a storage unit at Lansing and Vine.

Sgt. Tim Tietjen of the CCAT team says that finding the car became a labor of love for officers in the unit. "We tried to make an impact. We'd been working this case," he says.

Tietjen says the unit received a tip from an informant, and officers found the car at the home.

One person was arrested at the home Wednesday night.

The car was in pristine condition.

"This is a family heirloom, more than anything else. The car is worth more than $100,000," he says. "The family was overjoyed."
