Fresno Officer Under Investigation, Accused of Driving Stolen Truck

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fresno Police Officer Alfred Campos is accused of driving a stolen truck and a search of his house finds tens of thousands of dollars.

Police say it all happened Wednesday, when Campos took his truck in for some work.

When the mechanic checked the vehicle identification number, it showed up as stolen.

Officers say they were called right away.

After detectives determined it was Campos' truck. He was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

However, my KMPH Fox 26 News investigation revealed Campos was not just a police officer, but also a co-owner of his own auto shop.

Wednesday afternoon, officers served a search warrant at A&A Auto Service, along Blackstone Avenue, in Fresno.

A man named Alfonzo says Campos is his business partner, and works at the shop as a manager.

Alfonzo says Campos recently bought the truck from a private party, and had already registered it with the DMV, but when he took it to the dealership that is when it came up stolen.

My KMPH Fox 26 News investigation confirmed Wednesday officers also served a search warrant at Campos' Fresno home.

It is the same home, in July of 2006, where a search turned up nearly 3 pounds of crystal meth and more than $70,000 in cash.

During the raid, Campos' half brothers were arrested.

Later, the Fresno Police Department cleared Campos of any wrong doing and he returned to work.

Will that happen again in this one?

Detectives with the Fresno Police Department will only say the case is still under investigation.
