SELMA, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fire crews just left a Selma neighborhood where they had nearly 30 homes evacuated due a gas leak.

It was near the corner of McCall Avenue and Hillcrest Street in Selma.

According to the Selma Fire Department, it began around 8:30 P.M. when someone from the area called in saying that they smelled gas.

Fire crews arrived to investigate and found a leak in the underground volt.

They say the leak was small.

It is not yet clear what caused the leak or where it came from.

Crews were able to get the leak under control within an hour.

Shortly after 9 P.M. officials reopened the intersection and allowed people back into their homes.

According to Selma Fire, the hub is maintained by Cal Edison.

Workers from PG&E were on site to help.
