More People are Getting Flu Shots and Smaller Pharmacies Are Running Out

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

As the number of people dying from H1N1 continues to grow more people are getting flu shots. Smaller Valley pharmacies say they have so many people asking for the vaccine, they may run out.

"I don't know if people were really doing it, because the flu wasn't here. People were feeling good and the weather was good," says Dianne Jung from Sunnyside Pharmacy.

With so many people getting the flu vaccine that's left smaller pharmacies with low supplies.

"It's becoming more and more difficult to find, because there is an increased demand," adds Jung.

A lot of the vaccine is going to the government. You can get a flu shot at your county health department.

In Fresno County flu vaccinations are available at the Fresno County Department of Public Health located at 1221 Fulton Mall in downtown Fresno. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 12:00pm and from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. The shots are $6. No one will be refused services due to inability to pay.

In Kings County the Department of Public Health Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 11:00am and 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Flu shots will be given out in Building 3 at 330 Campus Drive Hanford.

The Merced County Department of Public Health is giving flu shots at their regular immunization clinics in both Merced and Los Banos. For more information you can call the Merced County Flu Info Line at 209-381-1180.

The Madera County Department of Public Health is offering flu shots Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1:30pm - 4:30pm. Wednesdays from 9:00am - Noon and 1:30pm - 6:00pm. The fee is $5. No one will be refused if they are unable to pay.

The Tulare County Department of Public Health is giving out the vaccine at the Hellman Annex Building at 1150 S. "K" Street in Tulare. Walk-ins are accepted on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm - 4pm. Thursday and Friday are by appointments only. The cost is $9 for adults and kids are free.
