Oregon, Maryland and Other States Take Giant Leap Forward in Health Enrollment
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Following yesterday's release of December health exchange enrollment data by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, analysts at the Transamerica Center for Health Studies (TCHS) have produced a state-by-state breakdown of HHS enrollment numbers that includes additional analysis on the eligible uninsured population and the percentage of completed applications in December, as well as Medicaid sign-ups by state.
The top five states with the largest month over month enrollment gains included Oregon at 417 percent; Maryland at 209 percent; California at 209 percent; Alaska at 192 percent; and Idaho at 167 percent.
"Oregon, Maryland and Alaska had a slow start initially that allowed for a high percentage increase in December, while California saw a very healthy increase on an already sizable base," said Hector De La Torre, executive director for TCHS.
Nationwide, December enrollment data revealed that women enrolled in the exchanges more frequently than men (54 percent vs. 46 percent), and the strongest demographic to enroll was Millennials ages 18 – 34, at a rate of 24 percent.
