Cockroach Clean-Up Continues, Foster Farms Stops Operations at Livingston Facility

For the second time in days, Foster Farms has stopped operations at its Livingston production facility.

This time, it did so voluntarily.

The poultry giant wants to more time to carry out its pest control procedures after the U.S.D.A. ordered its facility closure last week.

Inspectors reported they found cockroaches at the Livingston site on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In a statement, Foster Farms reports it will keep maintenance workers on the job, but the remainder of employees will be called back once full operations resume.

Foster Farms expects the closure of the Livingston plant to last several days.

Production is being shifted to other locations.

"On behalf of my family, I made a commitment to making this right and we are taking every opportunity to ensure the long-term efficacy of our program at this plant," said Foster Farms President Ron Foster.

"We are confident in the preventative plan and want to take the time to properly implement new measures to our satisfaction. Foster Farms is a company that strives for excellence. We will not resume operations until we are confident that we have the most stringent and effective treatment protocols in place."
