Two Men Shot; Madera Co. Detectives Look For Gunman

Posted: Updated:

Madera County Sheriff's Detectives are spending Monday night looking into a shooting of two people, and possibly a third, near Chowchilla.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m., in the area of Avenue 18 ½ and Road 10.
Madera County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Erica Stuart says that people in two cars may have gotten into an argument, and people in one car shot at the other.
Two men were hit.
One in the face, the other in his upper body.
One of the victims was found in a field near the site of the shooting.
The other man, was found in car with a window shot out, almost eight miles away, near Avenue 21 and Road 4.
At one point Madera County Sheriffs Deputies and California Highway Patrol officers canvassed the extensive area, believing there could be a third shooting victim.
A CHP helicopter even sounded the loudspeaker, telling anyone who is hurt to come out and get help.
But no one came forward.
The two victims were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
At least one of them was responsive, and told detectives that the people who shot at them were in a gray-colored pick-up truck.
But so far, no arrest has been made.
The site of the shooting is surrounded by dairy farms, and several neighbors were surprised by the commotion.
They tell KMPH Fox 26 that nothing like this ever happens in the area.
Sheriff's detectives plan to spend the night checking local hospitals to see if a third victim comes forward.
