FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

87 Valley kids took off Monday morning for a unique field trip to Pasadena for the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade.

The kids are volunteers from the Kiwanis International Key Club organization.

They gave up 17-hours from their Holiday vacation to help build a massive float.

"It's a really fun event, we get together as a Kiwanis family, and we work together in creating this amazing rose float," said Erik Rok, a volunteer from the Kiwanis club.

The high school kids rolled up their sleeves, and sunk their hands into buckets of flowers.

It took tens of thousands of fresh mums, hydrangeas, lilies, roses and even fruit to decorate the elaborate, forest theme float.

Kids from all over the Valley put together the finishing touches on the metal frame; bringing the lush design to life, just in time for New Year's Day.

"It's going to be awesome when we go back home and say yea we worked on it. It's going to be great," said Godofredo Juarez-Munoz, a volunteer from the Kiwanis club

The float is complete with an eagle center.

The theme for this year is "Dreams do come true," and the volunteers say being a part of the big event was a dream come true for them.

"Its awesome, to be a part of something big that everyone knows and celebrates ... the rose floats," said Rok.
