Gen. Vang Pao Statue Unveiled At Hmong New Year Celebrations

Hmong New Year celebrations are underway at the Fresno fairgrounds and a statue of Hmong leader, General Vang Pao was unveiled Friday morning.

The celebration kicked off Thursday and runs through January 1st the fairgrounds.

The statue was created by Monster City Studios in Fresno.

The statue stands six feet tall and weighs over 1,000 pounds.

Vang worked closely with the United States military during the Vietnam War. He later became a leader of the Hmong community in the United States, with close ties to the Central Valley until his death at the age 81 in 2011.
