Police & K-9 Discover Ex-Felon With Drugs

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

On Saturday, December 14, 2013, Southeast District patrol officers were conducting proactive patrol in the area of Eleventh/ Floradora when they observed a vehicle driven by David Stuard.  The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a posted stop sign.  The officers initiated an enforcement stop on the vehicle and contacted Stuard, who was the driver and sole occupant.  Officers learned that Stuard was operating the vehicle on a suspended license and also discovered a small amount of methamphetamine on the center console.

K-9 Officer James Young and his K-9 service partner Flurk, who is cross-trained to detect the presence of narcotics, arrived and assisted the officers. The K-9 immediately alerted to the trunk compartment of the vehicle.  Officers searched this area and discovered three ounces of suspected methamphetamine hidden in a speaker box which was mounted under the trunk's lid.  Additionally, the officers located a scale; packaging material associated with narcotic sales, 1000 dollars divided into small denominations, and a police scanner in the vehicle.

Stuard has prior arrest for narcotic sales and transportation of narcotics.  He was booked into the Fresno County Jail for possessing narcotics for the purpose of sales.
