Magnitude 4.1 Earthquake Shakes The South Valley

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook the South Valley late Thursday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey website reports the quake, which hit at 11:49 p.m., was centered 24 kilometers north-northwest of Lost Hills, and had a depth of 22.1 kilometers.  Click here to see an extra-large map.

The KMPH FOX 26 Facebook page lit-up with comments from people who felt the shaking:

  • Jimmy Ronquillo: "I felt it in Visalia. I thought someone was trying to break in or push the house."
  • Le Ann Shelley, also in Visalia: "I think it almost threw me out of bed. Don't want to go back to bed now."
  • Rainy Yang: "That's probably why my dog woke up and acted all crazy then went back to sleep after a few seconds. Scared the #2 out of me, I thought she saw a ghost or something!!"
  • Torrie Darlene Santoyo: "Felt it very strong here in porterville. Its scary brought back that feeling i had in 1989 i lived in Vallejo at that time."
  • Judy Pack: "We felt it in Visalia. We live in a mobile home, and it shook us. My 22 year old daughter had never felt one before. It only lasted a few seconds."
  • Mary Larralde: "I thought I felt something, Thought it was me feeling lighheaded. I felt it here in Reedley."
  • Mimi Pedraza Laws: "Felt it in Lemoore. Fine China started rattling."
