Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club Donates 300 Free Bikes To Valley Kids

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Hundreds of Angels roared into Fresno Saturday morning to grant the wishes of many Valley children.

Angels, from the "Hell's Angels motorcycle club," hand delivered more than 300 free bikes.

"It's a big gift, it's a big toy. It's every child's dream to have a brand new bike on Christmas. So we are here to help them," Merl Hefferman, a member of the club.

Eager faces graced hundreds of kids as they waited patiently for their early Christmas gifts.

The children watched as the Angels unloaded several trucks, full of red, black, white and pink bikes.

Kids of all ages walked away with a glossy pair of new wheels.

It was all smiles as some of the kids sat on a bike for the very first time.

"This is a big deal and especially for these children. Many of these children don't have bicycles; many of them don't receive a lot of Christmas gifts on Christmas morning," said Kathryn Weakland, Director of Development for The Poverello House.

The Poverello House organization helps many homeless and needy families throughout the Valley.

As a former homeless child himself, Merl Hefferman looked out over the crowd of happy faces.
Hefferman was able to not only give back to his community, but he granted many kids with the keys to their first ride.

The Angels passed along their love of bikes to a younger generation, along with a little piece of Christmas joy.

"That's what we do, ever year. And we are here to do it again, and we will be back next year. Poverello needs help every year," said Hefferman.

In addition to the free bikes, the Angels handed out thousands of unwrapped toys including Barbie dolls and toy cars.
