Small Business Profile: Kristina's Organic Groceries

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

November 30th is Small Business Saturday.

It's a day to honor Valley small businesses and the tens of thousands of jobs they provide.

All this week KMPH FOX 26 NEWS will profile small businesses as we head up to that day.

On Monday, we profiled "Kristina's organic groceries," in Fresno.

Kristina's prides itself on carrying many organic, and local products.

One of its popular items is the Mary's organic Turkey; a Valley product, raised in Sanger.

This year, one of its special Turkeys is headed to the White House, just in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

The special turkey is just one example of the many local goodies store owner Jim Belcher carries in his family owned market.

"Our store is completely GMO Free, which is no genetically modified organisms in any of our foods. There are no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners, colors, and if it's possible, everything is certified organic," said Belcher.

For Belcher small business means special attention.

As a retired naturopathic doctor, he passes along his good eating methods to everyone who walks through his aisles.

"I think the best part about it is that Jim, he is a local, and he is always here talking to customers," said Daniel Jones, a frequent customer.

While Belcher keeps his shelves stocked with unique, healthy treats, he admits it's all about paying it forward.

As the community supports him, he gives right back, by supporting other Valley businesses.

"We support the community, the local farmers and we are just into making everybody's life a little better," said Belcher.

The motto of living well and eating well also transfers to his employees.

Not only does his staff of fifteen, leave with a paycheck every week, they take home a lesson in good living and working as a family.

"In my interview I remember Jim mentioning he takes it very seriously as far as keeping as a family and it does have that feeling," Juve Vargas, a store employee.

Kristina's organic groceries has been in business for nearly 35-years.

KMPH Fox 26 news is a proud sponsor of small business Saturday in the Valley.
