Blockbuster Closing All Company Owned Stores

Posted:

Blockbuster Video will close all 300 U.S. stores, including the last four in the Central Valley.

It's the end of an era for renting videos.

Blockbuster, one-time king of the video rental business, is closing its remaining 300 company-owned U.S. stores, which includes the last four stores in the Valley.

Blockbuster will also shut down its DVD mail operation in January.

Less than ten years ago Blockbuster had 9,000 stores.

The company will continue as a streaming service available to customers of its parent company Dish Network.

About 50 independent Blockbuster franchise store owners will be allowed to stay in business.
