FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

More than 4-thousand runners hit the streets of Fresno and into Clovis for the annual "Two Cities Marathon."

As their sneakers hit the pavement, one by one runners moved closer to the grand finish line.

"It's incredible, it's just so hard to describe" said Arturo Arias.

First time runner, Arias admitted the run was a tough one to get through.

"When I hit mile 20 I was about to say, that's it. But my coach saw me walking and said hey pick it up, get energy, get back" said Arias.

The marathon stretched across 26.1-miles. It began in Fresno on Friant road; runners went toward old town Clovis and back to Woodward Park.

Runners from all over California came with a goal in mind.

For veteran runner Tony Nguyen, running is not only a way of life, it is what saved his life.

"I was 70–pounds overweight. I was insulin dependent; I was a couch potato turned marathon ultra runner. I know what its like to stare death in the face. I had a heart attach scare, got out there and started running and can't stop" said Nyugen.

For some the journey ended on the finish line, while others like Nyugen said they will never stop.

As high–fives and sounds of "we did it" filled the air, runners left with much more than just tired feet.

"Super tired but very happy" said Arias.
