Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Fresno police officer claims he asked to see a man's driver's license but the man took off with the officer halfway inside the car.

The officer says he was leaning into the car driven by Ricardo Jenkins, who had no license, and attempted to get away.

The officer held on and reached for his weapon.

Jenkins stopped the vehicle, jumped out and tried to run into a neighborhood but was eventually caught and taken into custody.

Police say Jenkins may also be connected to a shooting that took place at Manchester Center.
