Burglary And Kidnapping Over, Victim Beaten But Safe

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

58-year-old Tim Casa Grande is thankful to be alive. Police say the Fresno man was tied up, beaten, robbed, kidnapped and then driven to several ATM's and forced to withdrawal money.

Police say it all began just before 8:00 a.m. Monday morning in Northeast Fresno.

The victim's son called police to report his parent's house had been ransacked and his dad was missing, along with the family car.

Police began investigating the case as a possible kidnapping.

Hours later the victim was found in Southwest Fresno.

Talking, but visually shaken with a cut to his face, police gathered as much information as possible from 58-year-old Tim Casa Grande.

Casa Grande told officers he was kidnapped from his Northeast Fresno home.

Police say the crook came in through an unlocked door and once inside, beat up the retired Fresno County worker.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said, "Immediately the suspect took off running, put his head down and tackled Mr. Casa Grande to the bed. At that time he told him to turn over and tied his hands behind his back."

Chief Dyer says the thief ransacked the house and took at least three shotguns.

The victim says the suspect put a gun to his head several times and found his safe.

The victim was put in the back seat of his Toyota Camry.

The crook stopped at a gas station to fill up the car up and then drove around town, stopping at ATMs in downtown Fresno.

Thankfully, Casa Grande was eventually released hours and miles later in Southwest Fresno.

Chief Dyer said, "It appears he was alone when inside the residence, however, he did make contact with at least several individuals at locations he had driven to. It's unknown if those people saw the victim in the back."

Chief Dyer says the crook was talking on the phone with someone, who knew the victim was in the car.

Police are now looking for the suspect using a photo captured by one of the ATMs.

Police say the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867)

Your tip could earn you up to $1,000.
