Tulare County Sheriff Will Not Seek Re-Election

Tulare County Sheriff Bill Wittman will take some time off and will not seek re-election.

In a statement, the sheriff said he is taking a leave of absence and will not be seeking re-election.

He says he recently encountered a medical issue that prevents him from fulfilling his duties and obligations as sheriff but did not say what the issue is.

Sheriff Wittman has served as Tulare County Sheriff since January of 1995. His term is set to end in January of 2015.

During his absence, Undersheriff Mike Boudreaux will lead the department.
