KMPH Newscast Director Larry Howland Passes Away

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Larry Howland, a member of the KMPH-TV family since 1976, passed away over the weekend after a short illness.  Mr. Howland started his career at KMPH in the station's production department, and in 1983 became a director for the station's newscasts.

He currently served primarily on the KMPH Ten o'clock News.  He also was one of two primary directors for the station's syndicated program "California Vote 2010", which aired on numerous stations around California, and for the station's nationally-syndicated "Vote America 2012", which was seen nightly last year in many of the country's biggest markets.

Mr. Howland was respected and admired by his peers.  He was nearly unflappable in the face of the unexpected events and stress that accompany live TV newscasts, and his co-workers and teammates in his KMPH News family loved him for his kind and generous heart which he regularly and openly shared with everyone around him.

Jack Peck, President and General Manager of KMPH-TV, said "Larry was the consummate professional. He performed his craft with the utmost professionalism and skill. He will be sorely missed."

Mr. Howland is survived by his wife and daughter.  The family plans a memorial service in his honor which will be held on a date to be announced.
