IVANHOE, Calif. (KMPH) -

The Tulare County Sheriff's Department says at 7:19pm Friday night a deputy was involved in a shooting.

The department says the deputy tried to speak with a man in Ivanhoe. Detectives say the deputy knew the man was wanted for attempted homicide in a nearby community. The Sheriff's Department says when the deputy went up to the man, the guy threw a can at the deputy and ran. The deputy ran after the man and when they got to the corner of Heather and Hawthorn in Ivanhoe the man pulled out a hand and fired at the deputy. The deputy fired back, hitting the man. The man died at the scene of the shooting.

The Visalia Police Department is conducting the investigation.
