Body Of Missing Fireman Token Adams Found In New Mexico

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

After missing for a week the body of a firefighter originally from the Central Valley has been found. The New Mexico State Police say Adams body was found at 10:45am and that he was killed when the ATV he was riding crashed.

"It's very emotional," says Incident Commander Joe Reinarz, "It's a very tight knit group at the district and it has hit everybody pretty hard. It has hit our firefighters pretty hard."

The New Mexico state police say Adams was found in a very rugged part of the mountains, in an area called Stable Mesa. He was about a quarter mile from the road. Search crews say Adams was wearing full protective gear. State Police say they are not sure if he was killed in the crash or if he died from injuries. A crash reconstruction team is at the crash site investigating.

Adams disappeared last Friday when he went with two other firefighters on ATV'S to check out a fire. The group split up, but Adams never made it to pre–arranged meeting point.

Adams is from Coarsegold and graduated from Yosemite High in 1990. The 41–year old was a Navy veteran and former Navy Seal. He had ten years of firefighting experience. Adams started his career at the Bass Lake Ranger District and then was a Kings River Hot Shot. He moved to New Mexico a year and a half ago for a job with the U.S. Forest Service.

Adams leaves behind his wife, a 3–year old son and a baby on the way.

A memorial service has been planed for Adams on Thursday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary of Albuquerque in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Click here for more information about the service.
