U.S. Ships Ready Off The Coast Of Syria

Posted:
WASHINGTON (KMPH) -

If any military action is taken against Syria, it won't be today according to the Obama administration.

The White House is presenting its rationale for war after reports were released detailing the use of chemical weapons last week. Doctors Without Borders reports the attack killed 355 people.

U.S. warships are ready off the coast of Syria, but at the same time, the White House is careful to say that Syrian Dictator Bashar al-Assad will not be a target of any U.S. military action.

White Hose Press Secretary Jay Carney said, "The options that we are considering are not about regime change, they are about responding to a clear violation of an international standard that prohibits the use of chemical weapons."

NATO has a meeting scheduled Wednesday and the British Parliament has an emergency session on Syria set for Thursday.

Meanwhile, one of the Syrian dictator's allies is speaking out. Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro says claims that Syria carried out an attack "Smells the same," as when the US accused Iraq of possessing weapons of mass destruction, before invading the country ten years ago.
