City Removing Homeless Encampments In Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

After issuing a warning last month, Fresno city workers are in the process of breaking down homeless encampments near downtown Fresno.

City Manager Bruce Rudd announced plans to close down the camps earlier this month. He called the conditions unacceptable and said the city would not tolerate them.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer added that gang members and other criminals have been using the camps as a distribution point for drugs and other criminal activity.

Fresno police made more than 80 felony arrests in the encampments in a 20 day period.
