Governor Declares State Of Emergency For Yosemite Wildfire

Posted: Updated:

Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency to free up money to battle the Rim Fire burning out of control near Yosemite National Park.
The fire has been burning for nearly a week and has grown to over 105,000 acres and is threatening 4,500 structures.

Over 2,000 personnel are working on the fire that is only 2% contained.

The governor declared the state of emergency to cut red tape for more help to fight the fire.

More help may be hard to come by, because for the second straight year the government has run through its budget for fighting wildfires.

The federal government will now be forced to move $600 million from other funds to fight the Rim Fire.

Nearly 32,000 fires have burned through more than 3 million acres in the U.S. this year, according to the forest service.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
