Procession Route Released for Visalia CHP Officer, Brother-in-Law

Posted:

The California Highway Patrol has released the planned route for the return of Visalia C.H.P. Officer Jesus "Jesse" Magdaleno and his brother-in-law, Felix Brandon Cruz.

A procession is leaving Las Vegas at 12:30 p.m., and is expected to arrive in Visalia at approximately 6:30 p.m.

C.H.P. escorts are expected take eastbound State Route 198 to Mooney Boulevard.

They will travel east on Noble Avenue to Giddings Street, and north on Giddings to Miller Funeral Home.

No intersections will be closed.

The two men were killed after a carjacking Sunday in Las Vegas.

Cruz was loading up the back of a pick-up truck that morning, after Magdaleno's bachelor party.

Police say, 29-year-old James Montgomery jumped into the drivers seat and drove away from the valet area at the Flamingo Casino, with Cruz in the back of the truck.

Magdaleno chased the truck, and managed to jump in the back, demanding Montgomery stop.

Instead, Montgomery crashed two miles away. The two men were thrown from the back of the truck.

Magdaleno died at the scene.

Cruz died the following day.

Montgomery made his first court appearance Wednesday morning, where he was formally charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery. Our news partner KVVU reports that family members from Fresno were present for Montgomery's hearing.

He will be back in court next week.
