PARLIER, Calif. (KMPH) -

Members of the Parlier Police Department got some much–needed financial help, thanks to their own community.

A carnival like block party was held Friday evening outside the community center, and while it may have looked like an ordinary block party, the proceeds went to Parlier officer who were recently laid off due to budget cuts.

Parlier Police Chief Dave Serta says through grants and the communities support like these fundraiser's, he's been able to rehire the four officers back on a part–time basis.

Those who call Parlier home are thankful.

Veronica Marin says, "I love to support them because they do so much for the community and it's a way for us to give back."

In addition, even the kids know the importance of a safe community.

Chief Serta hopes to continue these events through out the rest of the year.
