Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A 59-year-old homeless man on was arrested on Tuesday for child pornography at the Fresno County Public Library, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies say Victor Smith, of Fresno, was actively downloading child pornography while seated less than 25 feet away from the Children's Center inside of the library.

Smith's arrest was the result of a two-week investigation.

During the investigation, detectives discovered an IP address that was downloading child pornography. The address came back to the main library located at 2420 Mariposa, the Sheriff's Office said.

Smith had been using his personal laptop computer to access the library's free Wi-Fi service and download child pornography files. The Sheriff's Office said that Smith had been regularly using the library's Wi-Fi to download the files since late April.

A search warrant was served at a homeless encampment on Santa Clara Avenue where Smith had been staying. Detectives say they found more evidence during the search.

Smith was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of possession of child pornography.
