Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A fight between a Fresno couple Saturday night ended with a deadly shooting.

The Incident happened around 7 p.m. near the corner of 4th and California street in southeast Fresno. That's when police say they received a call that a man armed with a gun was beating his girlfriend.

"There were some group of guys just hanging out right there. The guy just came and started beating his girlfriend or wife they tried taking him off of her and he just pulled out the gun," said Enrique Garcia Lopez, who witnessed what took place.

Police say the man had his girlfriend in a choke hold with one gun pointed to her head and another gun toward his own.

Neighbors say police fired two shots before the man went down. His wife still wrapped in his arms, neighbors said.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Detectives believe drugs may have been involved, but an investigation is still ongoing.

Police say the man was released from custody last week for a previous incident.
