DINUBA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A $6,000 grant from a local insurance agency will help bring new life-saving equipment to a South Valley fire department.

DiBuduo and DeFendis Insurance and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company awarded the grant money to the City of Dinuba Fire Department.

The money will be used to buy a new thermal imaging camera, firefighter helmets and automatic external defibrillators, officials said.

"The bottom line is that these tools can and do save lives," said Battalion Chief Sean Doyle in a news release. "We're fortunate to have received this donation so we can ensure the safety of our firefighters and our community, and we couldn't be more thankful."

A public event will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday for the fire department.
