A kayaker had to be rescued Tuesday after injuring himself going over a waterfall, the Madera County Sheriff's Office said.
Michael Tate, 33, of Sacramento, was Kayaking down the San Joaquin River in the afternoon when he went over a 10-foot waterfall and hit bottom, the sheriff's office said.
The accident happened in a remote just south of Devils Post Pile -- not far from where search and rescue crews found the wreckage of the plane flown by millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett.
The only way to access the area by ground is through Mono County, the sheriff's office said.
Tate was lifted by air and taken to a hospital in Mammoth.
He is expected to recover from his injury, the sheriff's office said.
