Two Planes In White House Fleet Sit In Fresno

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

One of President Obama's planes is parked at the Fresno Airport.  It is part of the White House fleet.   It's been parked on the tarmac at the Fresno Airport since Thursday evening and it will remain there as long as the President is in California.

Initially KMPH News thought the Nation's First Lady was making an unannounced visit to Yosemite while the President meets with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Southern California.  After a number of calls the First Lady's Office in Washington D.C. said she was not in Yosemite.

Also on the tarmac in Fresno is a C–17 jet.  This is the same Air Force military transport plane that carried support gear for President Obama's Ottawa visit.

Secret service agents were stationed at both planes but late Friday afternoon a recreational vehicle was brought in so they could take breaks away from the hot Valley sun.

Late Friday we received the official word about the Air Force Boeing 757.  Major Joel Harper told us the plane is assigned to the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

He says the mission is to provide safe, comfortable, reliable, connected and protected transport for our Nation's senior leaders.  The Major adds, while the aircraft is on an Official Air Force mission, there are no VIP passengers aboard the aircraft for the stop at Fresno.

President Obama will meet again with Chinese leader Xi Jinping Saturday morning.  Once Air Force One takes flight for Washington D.C. the two planes parked in Fresno will leave too.
