YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KMPH) -

Yosemite National Park rangers are searching for a hiker who went missing early Sunday morning while hiking to the top of Vernal Falls.

Officials say 73-year-old Kenneth Stensby, an avid hiker from Edina, Minn., left a note to hotel staff saying that he was hiking to the top of Vernal Falls and would return by noon.

His dark-colored backpack was recovered at the railing at the top of Vernal Falls, National Park Service officials said.

Park Rangers are conducting the search along the Mist Trail corridor, from Happy Isles to the top of Vernal Fall. About 30 people are currently involved in the search effort and the park is utilizing a dog team to assist in locating Stensby.

Anyone with information or who may have seen Stensby while hiking the Mist Trail or the John Muir Trail to Vernal or Nevada Falls is asked to 209-372-0432.
