UPDATE: Fatal Shooting Near Fresno State, Man Shot In Head

Fresno detectives are piecing together the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man near Fresno State on Tuesday night.

Detectives say a disturbance broke out between the 22-year-old shooting victim and the suspect around 7:42 p.m. in the area Cedar and Sierra Madre avenues.

When officers arrived, they found the victim with a single gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Detectives say the gunman ran across Cedar Avenue and was last seen heading toward the El Cazador apartments.

This is the 14 murder in Fresno, a small drop off compared to last year at this time when there were 18 murders in the city. This murder is West Fresno gang related and the motive is unknown, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 621-2443 or Crime Stoppers where an anonymous tip leading to an arrest could be worth a $1,000.

 

ORIGINAL: Fresno detectives are searching for clues in the city's latest murder.

The shooting happened just before 8 o'clock Tuesday evening near the corner of Cedar and Sierra Madera, which is just a block away from Fresno State.

Police say when they arrived, officers found a man with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Officers immediately gave him CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses a man was seen running from the area, through the apartments.

However, no one has been arrested yet.

Police say the victim was not a Fresno State student.
