A state health insurance company announced plans on Thursday to open a call center, bringing with it nearly 500 jobs to Fresno.
One of three state-of-the-art call centers will be opened in Fresno by Covered California, a company the provides low-cost insurance made available through the Affordable Care Act. It is expected to enroll more than 5 million Californians in a health plan.
California Covered officials say that nearly 500 staff will be hired and trained at the Fresno call center to assist consumers with online purchasing of the company's health insurance products.
The center will open in the fall. Although the exact location has yet to be announced, officials expect the call center to open in the fall.
Contra Costa County and in Rancho Cordova in Sacramento County will be home to the other two call centers in the state.
On April 13, Covered California will administer a written test at the Fresno Convention Center for the Program Technician 2 and 3 positions which assist callers with enrollment.
