Church Trailer Nearly Stolen, Man Stops Thieves In Act

Posted: Updated:
MERCED, Calif. (KMPH) -

Who would steal from a church?

That is the question, Pastor Israel Rodriguez and others from Rose of Sharon Church in Merced are trying to find the answer.

Last Friday, crooks stole a trailer filled with supplies the north valley church uses to help feed the needy, and raise money by selling food.

The Pastor's son-in-law, Rick Catano, saw them drive off with it.

Rick jumped in his car and he was able to find the crooks blocks away, just as they were unhitching the trailer.

The crooks got away but he was thankful to get the supplies back.

Rick Catano says, "I got on my knees and begin to pray for these individuals, I asked the Lord to forgive them just like you forgave me."

Pastor Israel Rodriguez Jr. says, "It takes a lot of work, a lot of money to replace all this equipment that we have here, we have about $10,000 worth of equipment here."

Pastor Rodriguez says these crooks have to realize when they steal they are not only hurting themselves but also their community.

He adds these criminal acts are not going to stop him or his congregation from spreading their message.

If you would like to donate to the Rose of Sharon Church, it is located at 717 T Street, Merced CA 95341.

Pastor Israel Rodriguez Junior can be reached at 209-631-1374.
