FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Fresno Unified School District student will compete for an amateur national boxing championship next month.

Moises Maciel, a senior at Sunnyside High School, was named the California Golden Gloves boxing champion in the 141-pound division.

In May, Maciel will square off in Salt Lake City at the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. Three hundred of the nation's best amateur boxers will be competing in the tournament.

Maciel fights for Fresno PAL and has a 49-3 record. He says his goal is to make the 2016 Olympics team.
