Jerry Tarkanian's election to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame became official Monday with the formal announcement from the Final Four in Atlanta.
The legendary former Fresno State head coach gained election in his first try after finally being put on the ballot.
Tarkanian ended his coaching career with a seven year run at his Alma Mater. He had his greatest success as the longtime head coach at UNLV, where he won the 1990 NCAA Championship and took the Rebels to the Final Four four times.
The 82 year old Tarkanian began his coaching career in 1956 at Fresno's San Joaquin Memorial High School.
The induction ceremony is set for September 8th in Springfield, Massachusetts.
