DOS PALOS, Calif. (KMPH) -

Dos Palos police and the Merced County Sheriff's SWAT team have captured a man wanted for murder in Oregon after a short standoff.

Law enforcement officials surrounded a home near Mabel and Valeria around 10 a.m. that Leland Thomas Nicholson, Jr.  had barricaded himself in after seeking shelter from his half sister.

Nicholson was wanted for killing a person and wounding another person in Klamath Falls, Ore. last week.

Police said Nicholson showed up at his sister's house in Dos Palos looking for help.

Nicholson's sister, 36-year-old Rebecca Paz, was arrested on Sunday for giving Nicholson a place to stay and help him avoid police.

Nearby schools have been placed on lockdown.
