Family of 6-Year-Old Boy Wants Hit And Run Driver To Come Forward

Posted: Updated:
SELMA, Calif. (KMPH) -

On Easter Sunday, 6-year-old Elijah Romero took his first steps, days after one of his many surgeries.

Elijah is still recovering in the hospital from several back surgeries, a broken arm and hip and he suffered in a hit and run car nearly three weeks ago in Selma.

An early 1990's model, light blue or gray van hit Elijah while he was riding his bike and then dragged him several blocks down the street before taking off, according to police reports.

Elijah's mother, Angela Hernandez, said her son will recover with the help of his faith.

"He's a little man of God," Hernandez said. "He is going to make it no matter what, man I cannot tell you the faith this kid has. He's showed me Gods with him and that's what's carried me through."

Elijah's family just happened to be walking their dog down the street when they saw the 6 year old  lying in the road.

"I just know it was God that sent us at the right moment," said Elijah's aunt, Christina Valle.

Detective Rene Garza has been working the case, but says very little information has come in.

Still, he says that he believes someone knows something.

"It kind of hits home when you are a father, I have nieces and nephews, I want to solve this case," Garza said.

Meanwhile, Elijah's mother has a message for the person who ran over her son and took off.

"Be responsible and come forward. Let us have some peace that someone comes forward and says sorry or something," she said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP where an anonymous tip could be worth up to $1,000.
