The Fresno Easter Classic may have had the pitching dual of the year. Heck, it could be the pitching dual of the decade as far as high school baseball goes. Clovis beats Kerman, 1-0, behind a no hitter from Jake Gatewood, out pitching Kerman's phenom, Carlos Salazar. With scouts from all 30 MLB teams and 2,500 spectators, the two pitchers put on a show. Salazar went 6 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and striking out 13. Clovis' run was unearned. Gatewood, just a junior, is committed to USC. Salazar, a senior, is committed to Fresno St., but he has hopes of being a first round draft pick and an instant millionaire. As does Gatewood, after a game like that.
Frontier beat Memorial, 8-1, in the tournament's championship game.
