Fresno Mom Owes Her Life To 6-Year-Old Daughter

Posted:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Fresno mom can thank her daughter for saving her life.

Although she's only 6-years-old, she handled an emergency like an adult.

In February, Steffani Kayajanian–Harris stopped at a Clovis Chevron station to put air in her car tire -- then she heard a pop in her head.

"It was just the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life," Kayajanian–Harris said.

She knew she was in trouble, so she told her daughter, Natalee, to go inside the store and have someone call 9–1–1.

"I found a lady busy doing her job," Natalee said. "She found a man to help me."

Within minutes paramedics and police arrived at the gas station at Fowler and Belmont.

Kayajanian–Harris recalls the paramedics tapping on the car window as she lay inside nearly unresponsive.

Kayajanian–Harris had suffered a brain aneurysm and spent 15 days in intensive care at Community Regional Medical Center.

She's says that she is lucky to be alive. But she is also proud of the way her daughter responded in her time of need.

"I'm just so proud of her," Kayajanian–Harris said. "If it wasn't for her I don't think I'd be here today -- I mean, that's what the surgeons told me."

The chief of neurosurgery recognized Natalee's swift actions with a life saving certificate.

"Children really are smart," the chief said. "They can do some really miraculous things for us.   You just have to teach them a few small things like 911 and to call 911 when you think there's an emergency."

However, Kayajanian–Harris' road to recovery suffered a major setback when she suffered a stroke.  Her mending period is four to six  months away.

Her husband is disabled and her family needs help.
