Posted: Updated:
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

UPDATE: Fire officials say malfunctioning electrical equipment sparked the 3-alarm fire that gutted a 16-unit southeast apartment complex.

The point of origin was a wall outlet, said Koby Johns, public information officer for the Fresno Fire Department.

ORIGINAL: A Monday morning blaze at a Peach and Olive avenues apartment complex has left its residents without a place to stay.

Fresno fire crews evacuated people from the 16-unit Peachwood Apartment complex just before 9 a.m.

It took 49 firefighters nearly 40 minutes to bring this fire under control.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but firefighters rescued a dog inside one of the units.

Electrical damage to the entire building was found.

Thirty-one people live in the apartment complex, said Koby Johns, the Fresno Fire Department public information officer. They will be temporarily housed by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, but neighbors say they had been having electrical problems recently.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.
