Man And Teen Who Robbed A Fresno Market With Plastic Gun Arrested

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Two people have been arrested in connection to a December robbery of a Fresno market, police said.

Jose Velazquez, 28, and a 17 year old whose name was not released were arrested in two separate investigations for the Dec. 8 robbery of the Esquivez Market on East Belmont Avenue.

Police said one of the two approached a female employee of the family-owned store and grabbed money from the register while the second suspect stole a cell phone from a customer.

The store employee grabbed one of the two as they were leaving, but she was struck several times in the head with the handgun until she let go. The impact broke the gun. Detectives, however, later found the gun to be fake.

Both bandits were last seen driving away in a waiting getaway car.

Police were aided in their search by tips from customers who were in the market at the time of the robbery.

Both Velazquez  and the 17 year old admitted to taking part in the robbery, police said.
