Diamond Dogs To Face Stanford Ace

The Fresno State baseball team opens a three game series at 15th ranked Stanford Friday night, facing ace pitcher Mark Appel.

Bulldogs' head coach Mike Batesole says Appel could be the first player picked in this year's Major League Draft.

Last season, Fresno State got seven runs off of Appel in a win at Beiden Field. But Appel got his revenge by beating the Bulldogs in an NCAA Regional showdown.

Appel has a fastball that can top out at 98 mph, and a breaking ball that falls off the table.

Fresno State is off to a 1-2 start after opening the season against UC Santa Barbara.
